Glutathione cycles between its reduced form and glutathione disulfide (GSSG) through glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR), with NADPH as the electron donor. Research using glutathione as a biochemical tool has examined Nrf2/Keap1 pathway regulation, mercapturic acid pathway conjugation and protein thiol redox status in cell lines.
